Local Official Perspective

In InterWET, the Local Official Perspective gives a four dimensional view or temporal view of the different water resource components.

For a local official, the purpose of studying each water resource component is to determine how current local planning policies will affect the future levels of each component. Their studies would predict how these levels would change over time for a geographic region of concern. The results of their work would be reports which predict future water resource change, which would be used to make more knowledgeable policies today.

InterWET uses special calculators to help the learner discover how different local policies would affect each water resource component for the case study of the Spring Creek Watershed in central Pennsylvania. The web page for each component is based on results from hydrologic models, previous papers, and reports for the Spring Creek Watershed. Each page contains a brief lesson that details the use of the different calculators and guides the learner through different scenarios. The end of each lesson highlights the relationships between the policies and the water resource component at different locations.
